I was a little girl by the road side,
There I sat and there I cried,
For there I saw them take him away,
Under cover of night not by day.
They acted like thieves they acted like cowards,
And even though he smiled they still glowered.
I followed close behind his friends,
Who even one in the end
Betrayed his master three times in a row,
And didn’t even realize it ‘till he heard the crow.
They took him away to a man called Pilot
But by now the commotion had started a riot,
Then Pilot turned and asked for the reason,
They wanted to kill a man not guilty of treason.
This was what I had been waiting to hear,
Why did they want to hurt a man who to me was so dear?
They could come up with no answer good enough for me,
So Pilot brought out the man for the people to see.
He was battered and worn,
Yet bore their scorn.
But as he stood like a prince,
Pilot asked for rinse
Of his hands till they were shiny,
And after the scrub Pilot said finally
“I hand this man over to you,
“For you to do with as you want to.”
They make him to walk with a wood cross on his back,
And as He went forward they gave the near-dead man no slack.
Yet as they reached the skull,
His eyes were not dull.
They nailed him to a tree,
Then placed him on Calvary.
But in my heart He told me not to cry,
Because even though He was about to die,
He would rise again in three days.
He said this was the only way,
That I could be with Him again,
The only way I could get to heaven.
As he talked I knew what He said was true.
I believe it and so should you.
We should always remember the name of the One who died to save us,
The wonderful name of our Lord Jesus!
